Strength and Conditioning

Nyema is our Strength and Conditioning Director at Absolute. Her background is in Exercise and Sport Science and has spent the last decade working with elite level athletes in various sports. She is also currently assisting with the Cal Track & Field sprint program. In her free time, she loves creating adventures with her 3 boys, two of which are twins.

Nyema designs a custom a one of a kind program that is exclusive to AVC. It is tailored by age group, individual skill level and tournament schedule. Her dream is to change the way the youth athletic experience is delivered. Sports specific training with sound strength & conditioning and mental skills training complete the trifecta.

The foundation of the program is built on “Do no harm.” From an injury prevention lens, she proceeds to establish sound technique and form as she works to help each athlete reach their full potential. Nyema understands that each athlete is unique and actively encourages positive body image amongst our athletes. NyEma’s greatest expectations is that athletes give their best every time they step in the gym. The training room can be a very rewarding place where many strength & power gains are made, fears are overcome and new levels achieved.

Nyema spends summers researching, analyzing, and studying what the most elite volleyball athletes & teams, on all levels, are doing for resistance training. Then she selects a major theme of focus for the upcoming season. In the fall, each teams schedule is combined to create an annual training plan. She is able to see when teams are training, competing or resting all in one place. Up next is designing the exercises, reps and sets that will be completed in each 4 week cycle for the season.

During the winter & spring, she delivers the program to our 21 teams; which comprises about 275 athletes ranging from 8-18 years old. Using a science based program that gives athletes the stamina to endure an elite level season, minimizes injuries and gain a competitive advantage year after year.

Nyema uses a progressive development model. Early training is important for teaching athletes the correct technique in basic movements and preparing a foundation of functional strength that supports volleyball-specific movements. By starting with bodyweight exercises, athletes can develop excellent strength-to-weight ratio and learn to control their own weight in all planes of motion, which will improve their on-court performance.

From Nyema herself, "I look forward to working with your athletes to help them become the best version of themselves in mind, body and soul. If you would like to receive an evaluation and customized program to enhance your training, I can be reached at my contacts below."
